Heart of England Galleries

The Heart of England Galleries is a consortium of leading art galleries throughout the West Midlands that I managed for three years.

The group is made up of several venues throughout the Heart of England who all share the same goal of raising the profile of, and developing audiences for, visual art galleries in the region.  There are currently nine members; The Barber Institute of Fine Arts; Compton Verney; The Herbert; Ikon Gallery; The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery; Shire Hall Art Gallery, Stafford; RBSA Gallery; The New Art Gallery Walsall and Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

Between 2006 and 2009 I worked with representatives from each venue to develop and manage collaborative projects ranging from Museums & Galleries Month and school holiday marketing campaigns to exhibiting at ArtsFest. I liaised with the group monthly to obtain, analyse, format and disseminate information that informed planning and best practice in each venue.  I also chaired quarterly meetings, was responsible for attracting new members, planning campaigns and projects, identifying opportunities and securing funds for the group.  I loved working with such a diverse range of art galleries and although managing collaborative projects that all members were happy with was challenging, it was also extremely rewarding and satisfying.

“Over the past three years, Kerry has been instrumental in enabling Heart of England Galleries to deliver highly successful joint print campaigns as well as organising profile-raising information and children’s activity stands at Birmingham’s ArtsFest in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The group has also grown in membership and enthusiasm as members have seen the organisation grow in efficiency under Kerry’s co-ordination.  We found Kerry to be a highly efficient, enthusiastic, creative and industrious co-ordinator and project manager with excellent organisational skills, a wealth of ideas and a thorough knowledge and enjoyment of the galleries and museums sector. She has a large amount of experience in the regional arts marketing, audience development and funding field, which has also been invaluable to us. Also, Kerry is a highly co-operative, friendly and enjoyable person to work with.”
